Facebook is now offering brand page users the opportunity to market to their subscribers and followers simply and directly through normal sharing and posting. Using Promoted Posts is identical to sharing a regular post on the brand page’s wall, but with the somewhat controversial twist of paid advertising. Not surprisingly, some users have been skeptical about paying for something that they are already able to do. The changes that come with Promoted Posts actually bring new possibilities to the table and create a great opportunity for your business.

Before your brand makes any quick decisions on whether or not to use Promoted Posts, there are some things you should be aware of. Promoted Posts allow your business to:

1. Advertise at home

Rather than paying an outside source to advertise products, your brand can advertise to followers on your very own Facebook page. Promoted Posts make reaching out to Facebook users easier with a few extra clicks of the mouse. Brands will provide payment information initially upon using Promoted Posts. With every post to follow, you simply select the option of a $10, $20, or $30 advertisement and are billed accordingly.

2. Increase views

Status updates and posts that are shared on a brand user’s page do not reach the eyes or news feeds of every person who “likes” that page. On the flip side, a typical post from a fan page reaches just 16% of their total audience. With Promoted Posts, you will see the “estimated reach” of your message before you decide to post it. This number will increase or decrease depending on the amount that you choose to pay for the advertisement.

3. Target a specific audience

Brands can select a language or location when sharing a new post. If a post is more relevant to users in certain areas, your brand can carefully choose where exactly you would like your message to go. By using this tool, your “estimated reach” will be spread across a much thinner platform and your message will go directly to where it is most applicable.

4. Share, Re-share, and Auto Share

Facebook offers brand page users the option of promoting their regular posts or status updates after they have already been posted. This means your brand can share a post and, within 3 days of sharing, go back and choose to promote it so that it will reach a larger audience. Brands can also select the option “always promote my most recent post” when sharing a new post. If your brand feels confident marketing to its audience on a larger scale, this can be a great tool.
